What is Animal Communication, and How Does it Work?
Animal communication isn’t an obscure skill only available to a select few. Learn more about what it is, how it works, and what to expect in a professional session.
My dogs Milo and Lucy.
In simple terms, animal communication is the unspoken language that we share with all beings. After all, we’re animals too!
(You may have heard it called psychic, intuitive, telepathic, or interspecies communication. Technically, all of these things are a bit different. But for simplicity's sake, we can group them together.)
This type of communication is the exchange of information with animals in the energetic and spiritual realms, as opposed to the physical and tangible realm we're so used to. While verbal and behavioral communication are valuable, this is something different—it's about connecting in ways that go beyond our usual five senses. And animals are masters at this type of exchange because it's just part of how they've always lived.
Think of it like this: Every living being has an energy field that extends beyond their physical body. And although you might not know it yet, you’ve probably already experienced moments of energetic communication with your animal companions, like when you sense your dog needs something before they show any obvious signs, or when you just know your cat is about to jump in your lap even before they move.
And if those examples don’t quite click, think about times you’ve had a gut feeling—like when you just knew who was calling even before you checked your phone, or when you sensed someone staring at you from afar.
So when we talk about animal communication, we're not talking about an obscure skill only available to a select few—it’s about working with these same natural energetic abilities that we already use every day, just in a more focused way.
How Animal Communication Works
Communicating with a specific animal is all about connecting with them through their energy field, kind of like tuning a radio to the right frequency. With focused attention and intention, we create a clear channel for sharing information back and forth.
And because their energy isn't bound by physical space, that’s how we can communicate remotely or even connect with animals who have crossed over.
During animal communication sessions, the information comes through what we call our subtle or intuitive senses. The communicator might receive:
Mental images or scenes in the mind's eye
Physical sensations that mirror what the animals are experiencing
Direct thoughts or knowing
Emotional impressions
Quiet sounds or words
New insights will often come through, but many times the messages will also validate things you've already sensed about your animal companion, even if it wasn't fully clear before.
And just like a conversation between humans, it goes both ways. Your animal companion can both share their own thoughts and feelings and receive the messages and questions you want to convey. Think of the animal communicator as a translator, helping to facilitate a deeper dialogue between you and your animal friend.
What to Expect in an Animal Communication Session
Since animal communicators work in different ways, I can only tell you what you can expect in a session with me.
During animal communication sessions, my intention is to facilitate a conversation between you and your animal companion(s) and to be a humble vessel for whatever they want to convey to you.
This happens by connecting with the animal’s energy and soul, which are not bound by the physical body, time, or space. That’s why I can do it remotely, without the animal being present, and also why I can also connect with an animal who has died.
After asking for their consent, I let animals lead the conversation. Often, they’ll start by telling me about their personality and other things that let you know that it’s actually them I’m connecting with. They’ll have me relay whatever they’d like you to know before answering your specific questions for them. We may cover anything from food, illness, behavior, and opinions to your purpose together, dying wishes, the afterlife, past lives, and much more.
During my exchanges with animals, I may see faint images, words, or scenes in my mind’s eye; hear quiet music, words, or sounds in my head; feel a slight physical sensation or emotion; faintly taste or smell something; and sometimes, I just suddenly know something or receive full thoughts. I also may feel the energetic dynamics between the animal and others in the household or the energy of a situation.
You’re welcome to participate in whatever way feels comfortable to you! You can talk as much or as little as you’d like during the session, offering some background, asking questions, or asking for clarification. Any emotions that come up are all welcome, too—from tears to laughter, it’s all valid here.
While I can't guarantee what specific information will come through in any session, I can promise to share what I receive honestly, without embellishment or manipulation. Your animal companion might share very specific memories or details, and there’s plenty of subtle connection too—focused on their energy, emotions, or general messages. I never make up details to try to “convince” you, and I'll always be clear about what I'm sensing versus what I'm interpreting.
Ultimately, this conversation can help you reach a level of mutual understanding and support that you might not have realized was possible, whether your animal companion is at home with you or they’ve crossed the rainbow bridge.
